Feeling anxious over an upcoming date? Got the idiom “first impressions last” stuck in your mind? Well stress no more because this article is going to help you dress your way to your date’s heart!
Before you make any clothing or style decisions, first decide what you are going to do during your date. When deciding this, you must take into consideration what both you and your date enjoy doing (…obviously :-;). If you have not known your date long enough to have an inkling about what she will enjoy, the usual formal evening date will suffice. No matter what you choose, make sure you inform your date ahead of time so that she can also prepare appropriately. This will also help synchronize your attire with what your date is wearing. Surely you would like to look good as a couple, right? What’s more, this would also pass off a subtle hint to her that you connect on a mental level too. Nice- two birds, one stone!
Once you know exactly what you will do on your date, you can start deciding on what you will wear. It is very important that you dress appropriately. If you are going to an upscale restaurant or party, wear a nice suit that accentuates your best features and makes you look lean and tall. Also do your date a favor by reading up on how to properly wear suits.
If you are going out to do something a bit more adventurous, say rock climbing (you would be surprised how many actually do this!), then a suit may not be the best option. The rule of thumb should always be – wear what makes you feel comfortable, confident and handsome. Also, remember that to look great, your clothes and your shoes need to be clean and presentable. Shoes are like the topping on a sundae. They can make or break your entire outfit. Wearing dirtied shoes is a no-no!
When picking an outfit, try not to outshine your date. Let her feel like she has the spotlight on her wherever you are. That is not to say that you should skimp on looking great though; all I mean is maybe take it down a notch and let her have centre stage. Wear lighter colors with vertical stripes if you have a small frame or dark, deep colors if you have a big build. Ask a friend to help you pick out your outfit if you need a second opinion.
Included in the list of “accessories” that you should have is a bouquet of flowers, especially if you are going out with her on a first date. Choose and order the flowers ahead of time so that you don’t need to rush. If you can find out what her favorite flowers are beforehand, that would definitely be a plus. TIP: Try asking her best friend.
Perhaps the most important thing to remember when prepping for your date is hygiene. Shave off or trim your beard (if you have one) so that you do not look drab, old and tired. Make sure your teeth are clean and that you are wearing deodorant at a minimum, although light perfume is preferred. You really do not want your date’s first impression of you to be of somebody who cannot be bothered to clean up. Do this and you should be able to dress your way to a second date and who knows – maybe eventually to your date’s heart! Good luck!
