In recent years, the idea of mens wrist watches has changed from being a simple timepiece to something so much more. Mens wrist watches are a status symbol, a work of art designed to complement a style. In many cases they can really change the whole look of an outfit. Today I want to take a little look at why mens wrist watches are so appealing, and perhaps more importantly for you, how they can be worn.
So, what is the appeal of a wrist watch? Well, for both men and women it is a symbolism of their personality. People wear watches all the time, and thus when they wear them, they choose a style that resonates with them. There are those that believe that if you look at someone’s watch, you will be able to tell right away what they are like as a person. I don’t completely agree with this as a man is more than his watch but to a certain extent – yes. You do get a feel for what a person holds dear to them, what lines they prefer, etc when you glance at his watch. Of course, the secondary appeal is just to look fantastic, and as I mentioned before a watch can make any outfit look complete. Let’s take a little look at how you can wear one shall we?
The first tip I can give you when wearing a wrist watch is to ensure that you do NOT wear it loose. This is probably one of the biggest mistakes men make when using a watch to complement their outfit. You want that watch to be nice and tight around your wrist, and of course you don’t want it to move about as you walk around, it can quite easily come out of place and can ruin the whole effect! A loose watch is also prone to being lost! If you cannot get your watch tight enough then you can always go to a watch repairman who will be able to help you out!
If you are going to be wearing your watch to formal events then you will want to choose a ‘formal style’ watch to complement your style. This means that it should be constructed of a precious metal i.e. gold, silver or platinum. Try to get it to match the rest of the jewellery that you are going to be wearing. It shouldn’t be too big in terms of diameter (although this depends on the size of your wrist). If you are going to a semi-formal event then you will want to opt for a watch with a leather strap.
For everyday watch wear, try to choose a watch which is slightly more neutral in terms of its look. This way you can complement your complete wardrobe (most of it anyway) with ease. In my opinion, the material that works the best is ‘stainless steel’, but of course it is completely your choice when it comes to choosing the right thing to wear!
So what wrist should you wear your watch on? Well, whatever is the most convenient for you! There is no ‘set’ way in which to wear your watch. If you prefer it on your right wrist then by all means put it on your right wrist! Personally, I am quite comfortable wearing my watches on my left wrist.
As you can see, there isn’t too much to think about when wearing mens wrist watches. I think the most important thing to consider is the type of watch that you are going to be wearing and making sure it is fits in with your personal style.
