Baume & Mercier create high-end fashion watches with Swiss precision in mind. They have a long and storied history of design elements that are worth noting, and with the release of the Baume & Mercier Men’s Capeland Silver Chronograph Dial Watch, they present an interesting blend of fashion and technology, with a little bit of what you’d expect from the chronograph styles of other brands. The mix is an odd one, but it seems to work out quite nicely in this feature release. A closer examination reveals an intriguing selection for those who want a bit of adventure with their more elegant timepiece, although there are some negative points to note as well.

Pros
The round design is paired with an anti-reflective sapphire that flows well with the interior lightness of the dial. The jam-packed analog display is what you would normally expect from a chronograph. The stainless steel case has a 42 mm diameter and 15 mm thickness, and it contrasts well with the brown leather band. The bezel function is set, stationary and stainless steel.

The movement inside is automatic and done in the Swiss tradition, with a luminous interior and a water-resistant grade of 165 feet (50 meters). The timepiece’s center dial point is a bit separated from the band, and it’s noticeable if you look closely, but that’s not a negative point as it helps make the watch a bit more prominent on the wrist. It’s definitely a selling point, as it balances fashion and functionality.

Cons
At first glance, the oversized interior doesn’t seem to balance well with the band and the white stitching on the brown band offers what some might consider to be too much of a contrast. The numbering system may seem crowded and could cause a bit of confusion, especially for those who are used to a digital framework and are stuck to their smartphones. It takes a bit of getting used to for some. The only other point of distraction is that it is not very versatile; it’s not going to transition well from boardroom to hiking or any sort of adventure without scratching. As such, this watch is not made for intensive, daring ventures.

The Final Verdict
The Baume & Mercier Men’s Capeland Silver Chronograph Dial Watch is a strong watch. It’s fashionable and interesting, with components that you’d expect from this and many other companies of similar stature. However, as mentioned above, there are a few things that are tough to contend with, making this watch seem less than perfect overall. Perfection is something that is tough to gauge on these releases and this one is close in a lot of ways, but it is just not made for strenuous activities and outdoor adventures. If you want an elegant watch with the functionality of a chronograph, this watch is definitely worth looking into. To take a deeper look click here.
